Backstage at the Prix de Lausanne dance competition.

A friend of mine, chairman of the Prix de Lausanne dance competition, knowing of my love for dance, invited me to spend a morning backstage during the 2023 competition.  These are just a few snapshots taken from “les coulisses” of the Théâtre de Beaulieu, but they give you a sense of the light, energy, excellence and wonder of the event.

Indonesians: Portraits from an Archipelago | Published 1983

Here are some pages from my own copy of my first book, on the people of Indonesia, published in 1983. Tear sheets instead of full images because the original transparencies are damaged and I am still in the process of restoring them and creating digital versions.  These are of course from the days of sensitive film and labs overseas, and no photoshop; so every image is straight out of the camera.  Shot on Nikons, Leicas and Hasselblads, using mostly 35mm Kodachrome and Ektachrome Professional 120. Virtually no cropping, other than to fit the space on the page, and no post-processing. The book would have looked very different if published today. You can still find the book available for sale, second hand, on Amazon from time to time.

I was honoured to have been invited to produce the photos for this magical "Master Chef" day for children supported by the Make A Wish Foundation in Switzerland.   This collaboration between Make a Wish, Le Pie (who donate a portion of their profits to Make A Wish) and the Planetarium in Vevey turned out to be great fun for all.
